Nonprofit solar projects still going up
NC continues to have solar projects where your charitable donation could make a difference.  Here's a list of current projects accepting donations.

Help us find nonprofits in NC who are raising funds for their solar panels.  Here's a list of nonprofits which are raising funds for a solar array.  Make your pledge or donation directly to their project TODAY.

If you hear of a group exploring the possibility of installing solar this year, email Gary Smith at smithgk@mindspring.com.  Please don't assume we've already heard!

Resources for your solar campaign
Are you considering installing a solar array on your congregation or nonprofit?

The CUCC Solar Array Project was designed to be a pilot project to test whether the community could fund an array on a nonprofit.  We are glad to pass along what we learned and the resources we developed.  Contact Gary Smith, chair of the JCC, to arrange a conversation by phone or in person.  smithgk@mindspring.com

Cool Congregations Award
Community UCC is honored to have received the Cool Congregations Award of Interfaith Power & Light.  The solar array is part of the larger climate change work of the congregation.  Thanks to each of our community donors for joining the congregation in this work.  Many of you also serve on the pre-weatherization team.

Pilot project featured in the news
One of the project's goals was to report to the community about our experiment with the model of community-funded solar.  These summary descriptions may be a good place for you to start investigating whether the model might work for you.

On Thursday, October 15, 2015, we turned on our solar array and began generating electricity!

The array was dedicated to God's work Sunday, February 14, 2016.

Fourth and final seed grant given
We're excited to be supporting Good Shepherd United Church of Christ with a grant of $592.16, the remainder of the funds you helped us raise.  This brings the total grants to $1667.16.

Already installed:  24 kW of solar panels now installed at 3 other locations!  Thanks to your generosity, we were able to provide two $500 grants to other non-profit solar projects in North Carolina.  Read more about Jane and Gary Smith's visit to the dedication of the array on an affordable housing quadruplex, and High Country UCC's team of professional and volunteer installers for their array.  A third gift ($75) was given to a pole-mounted teaching array at Jordan High School.
